Charting Progress: A Recap of 2023

2023 has been a year of transformative growth and exciting developments for the East Central Indiana Regional Partnership and its communities. From receiving the first READI dollars at Vision Corner Learning Center in February to the completion of phase three of the Wilbur Wright Trail in November, the region has seen a flurry of activity and positive changes.

February

Vision Corner Received East Central Indiana's First READI Dollars

Vision Corner Learning Center, located in Union City, was the first project to receive part of the region's $400,000 total investment of READI dollars. This funding will fuel the expansion of Vision Corner's mission, focusing on adult-level career education opportunities and building enhancements.

March

READI Funding Supported Property Acquisition in Downtown Yorktown

In March, the Town of Yorktown achieved a crucial milestone in its downtown redevelopment journey, acquiring the final parcel of a half-square block through a $238,250 READI investment. These redevelopment efforts are expected to generate nearly 200 jobs and, over the course of 10 years, contribute to approximately $150 million in economic activity, helping to shape the heart of downtown.

Annual Luncheon Spotlighted Impressive Investment and Jobs Created from 2022 Efforts

At the annual luncheon, the East Central Indiana Regional Partnership showcased the region's impressive 2022 achievements, highlighting $1.5 billion in capital investment and the creation of over 1000 new jobs. President & CEO Trevor Friedeberg expressed gratitude to supporters for contributing to the region's positive momentum, emphasizing the collaborative strength that drives the partnership's success.

Duke Energy Awarded Marketing Grant to ECIRP

Duke Energy awarded more than $125,000 in grants to 26 local and regional economic development organizations to spur new jobs and investment in Indiana communities. As part of this initiative, the East Central Indiana Regional Partnership secured a $5,000 marketing grant to upgrade the site selection property tool on their website in collaboration with GIS WebTech.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Marked the Beginning of Construction for Gas City Music Center

In May, the city celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Gas City Music Center, the first East Central Indiana READI project requiring an entirely new build. Mayor Bill Rock and city engineer Jason Miller led the event, symbolizing the start of construction for the 1800-seat venue that will serve as a cultural hub for performing arts shows, seminars, and community events with an anticipated completion date in mid-2024.

Latest Issue of Livability East Central Indiana Showcased Vibrant Quality of Life

The East Central Indiana Regional Partnership released the latest edition of Livability East Central Indiana, an interactive digital magazine designed to attract entrepreneurs, executives, and families to the region. The issue showcased the region's diverse business opportunities, high-quality living conditions, and exceptional attractions, with standout features like "Dive in Downtown" and “Furry Favorites.”

East Central Indiana Regional Partnership Engaged New Consultant for READI 2.0

With a focus on community engagement, ECIRP and HWC announced their collaboration in developing a comprehensive regional investment plan, ensuring inclusivity and sustainability in the region's growth. Their plans included conducting workshops and stakeholder meetings across the eight counties to gather community input and build a strategic vision for East Central Indiana's future.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Celebrated the Start of Construction on the YMCA Facility in Muncie

The city and YMCA of Muncie joined forces on July 18 for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new facility, a key element of the McKinley-Whitely Live Learn Neighborhood project. With $1 million in READI funding and support from various donors, this 73,000-square-foot facility, strategically located near Muncie Central High School, is set to transform the community.

ECIRP Unveils Strategic Plan to Drive Economic Growth

The East Central Indiana Regional Partnership announced the launch of its ambitious strategic plan, developed in collaboration with consultant Smart Solutions Group, outlining a comprehensive vision to drive the region's economic growth over the next 2-3 years. With a focus on fostering a diversified industry base to counter population decline, the plan emphasizes effective collaboration, communication, and quality-of-place initiatives.

IEDC Held READI Forum, Inviting Regions to Muncie

In September, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) held a READI forum in Muncie inviting regional stakeholders from all over the state. ECIRP had the opportunity to present their planning efforts and findings in preparation for READI 2.0 funding.

Forge Your Path Video Highlights Career, Housing, and Destination Opportunities in ECI

In collaboration with East Central Indiana businesses and organizations, Forge Your Path released a fun and unique video to help guide past, current, and potential residents through the diverse opportunities and attractions in the 9-county region.

Salamonia Schoolhouse Restoration Sparked Community Resilience

In the heart of Salamonia, a historic schoolhouse, a community symbol for over a century, underwent a transformative restoration thanks to READI 1.0 grants. Beyond hosting town meetings and gatherings, the schoolhouse represents a vital link to Salamonia's history, and the restoration project, utilizing ARPA funds and county economic development funds, aims to enhance accessibility, resolve maintenance issues, and preserve a cherished piece of the town's heritage.

Phase Three Completed for Wilbur Wright Trail

The completion of phase three of the Wilbur Wright Trail project in Mooreland, was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 17, marking a significant milestone in the community's vision for a 13.1-mile trail connecting New Castle to Losantville. The project not only enhances outdoor recreation opportunities but also serves as a testament to community aspirations and collaboration happening in East Central Indiana.

ECIRP Recognized as Transatlantic Member of the Month

Transatlantic Business & Investment Council recognized the ECIRP as its December Member of the Month. The partnership has been a member since 2017. As a member, we have the opportunity to connect with potential European investors. In 2018, our organization hosted a European automotive delegation in Muncie.
